Output Enablers

Current Product and Price List

Output Enablers sells low-cost snap-on Macintosh accelerators. These accelerators work by replacing the signal coming from the computer's oscillator with one of a higher frequency. Our customers have seen performance increases of up to 60% using our accelerators, which gives us one of the best price/performance ratios in the accelerator market. All our kits come with a second slightly slower oscillator that you can use if your computer doesn't work at the highest speed.

Most of our kits are based around our RocketSocket, which is a device that fits snugly over the oscillator on the motherboard and accepts a new higher-speed oscillator in a socket on top of the device. Complete installation instructions are included with each kit, and we can provide additional technical support via e-mail. Please e-mail us if you have questions, comments. Visit our online order form if you would like to place an order. Frequencies are sometimes changed to increase speed or stability.

Below is a table of our products listing what is included in each kit.

Notes:

a: These kits require you to de-solder the on-board oscillator and replace it with the included 4-pin oscillator socket.
b: This kit will disable the on-board ethernet on the Centris 610.
c: These kits require you to do some amount of soldering on your motherboard.
d: This kit requires you to remove the power supply on your 7100 in order to install the RocketSocket.
e: These kits require you to dismantle your PowerBook in order to install the RocketSocket. Tools for opening the PowerBook case are included with these kits.
f: Please see our page on upclocking the PowerBook 3400
g: Please see our page on upclocking the PowerMac G3

We also sell a few products for people who want to build their own kits:

"The 040 Chiller" -- for all 68040 Macintosh models ($10.00)

This is a heat-sink/fan combination that attaches to the 68040 chip in your machine to dissipate heat from the CPU. It attaches to the CPU using double-sided heat transfer tape and obtains power from the hard disk or CD-ROM. This part is included in the kits for the Centris and Quadra 610 and 660av machines. It also works on the Centris and Quadra 650, 800, and 840av machines as a replacement for the standard heat sink in those machines.

"The PDS Chiller" -- for the PowerPC PDS upgrade card ($10.00)

This is a heat-sink/fan combination that attaches to the long, flat part of the heat-sink on the PowerPC PDS upgrade cards using double-sided heat transfer tape. This part is included in the C650/PPC(mod), Q800/PPC, and Q650/PPC kits. It is advisable to use this on PPC PDS cards running faster than 66 MHz.

"The Power Chiller" -- for all PowerMac 6100 and 7100 models ($10.00)

This is a CPU fan that fits nicely inside the 601 heat sink on the PowerMac 6100 and 7100 models and cools your up-clocked CPU. It obtains power from the hard disk or CD-ROM. This part is included in the kits for the PowerMac 6100 and 7100/66. It will not work on the PowerMac 8100/100 and 8100/110 models.

"The G3 Chiller" -- for G3/233 and G3/266 models ($15.00)

This is a assemble-it-yourself set of parts that contains a heat-sink, a CPU fan, a wiring harness, and some thermal grease. It is intended to replace the heat sink that comes with the stock G3/233 and G3/266 models and requires some assembly (you must use the clip that holds the stock heat sink to the CPU and epoxy the heat sink and CPU fan together.)

MC88916CW70 PLL chip -- for hardware hackers with Q605 machines ($20.00)

This is a replacment for the lower-rated PLL chip that is on the board of the Quadra 605 and LC475 machines. Switching PLL chips is not a trivial modification, and should only be attempted by people who have experience soldering surface-mount components. That said, this chip can allow your Q605/LC475 to get to 40 MHz. Marc Schrier has posted details on the Q605 modification.

"Oscillators" -- for all our sockets ($5.00)

We sell TTL crystal oscillators at a very large number of frequencies and in a number of different packages. Please contact us about bulk pricing if you would like to order more than 10 oscillators of a single frequency. Our list of frequencies is too long to be mailed, but if you contact us with a 1 or 2 MHz range and a package type, we can tell you all of the frequencies that we sell in that range. Please be sure to have us check and set aside custom oscillators before you send in your order. We try to stock as many frequencies as possible, but our stock varies rapidly.

"Crystals" ($5.00)

We sell some 2-pin crystals that can be used in some machines that don't have oscillators. We have them in a wide range of frequencies. Please be sure to have us check and set aside custom oscillators before you send in your order. We try to stock as many frequencies as possible, but our stock varies rapidly.
